Scrapbook Store Called Archives - The Best
Scrapbook Supplies
When you get started with scrapbooking,
there are so many supplies that it seems overwhelming.
But the most important scrapbooking supply is also the
simplest – paper.
Notable Paper for scrapbooking comes in many sizes,
styles, and colors. The most common scrapbooking size is
12” x 12”, though paper comes in other smaller sizes as
well. In recent years, smaller albums (8” x 8” and 6” x
6”) have also become popular, and many manufacturers
sell paper in these sizes as well. Which paper you
choose for your scrapbook depends more on your own style
(and the pictures that you will be scrapbooking) than
anything else.
But regardless of type of paper, make sure that your
paper is acid-free. This means that your paper won’t
fade over time, and, more importantly, won’t damage your
pictures. Some scrapbook supply companies also make
paper that is lignin-free; this is another component of
paper that will break down over time and could damage
your pictures.
Cardstock
The most important scrapbook supply that you can buy is
cardstock. You can create a beautiful scrapbook page
with just a few sheets of cardstock and your pictures!
Cardstock is thick paper that forms the background of
most scrapbook pages. Cardstock comes in nearly every
color under the sun, and can be purchased at any craft
supply store.
Cardstock can be smooth on both sides, textured on one
side, or textured on both sides. Textured cardstock is a
very popular scrapbooking supply, as it adds depth to a
page without adding a lot of bulk. There are many brands
of cardstock; the most well known is Bazzill. Bazzill
cardstock is known for its deep colors and beautiful
textures. Bazzill cardstock is also colored all the way
through. That means that when you tear or cut the
cardstock, the core is the same color as the outside.
Depending on your scrapbooking style, this can be a very
important feature. There are also textured cardstocks
with a white core. This creates an entirely different
look on your scrapbook page.
Cardstock usually costs between 25 and 60 cents per 12”
x 12” sheet. Many manufacturers also offer multi-sheet
packs that are grouped by tones (Earth tones, pastels,
etc.) or textures, which can provide a savings on this
essential scrapbooking supply.
Patterned Paper
Next to cardstock, the next most popular scrapbooking
supply is patterned paper. Patterned paper gives your
page style, and can serve as an accent to your pictures.
Most patterned papers are thinner than cardstock (more
like the weight of a piece of copy paper), and come in a
variety of themes and colors. Thicker patterned paper
(more like the weight of cardstock) is also available.
Many scrapbookers like to purchase themed patterned
papers to highlight their pictures, for example, using
Christmas papers to go with holiday pictures.
There is also patterned paper that has no theme, but a
design, such a stripes, polka-dots, swirls, or flowers.
These papers are easy to add to a page; simply
coordinate the colors to highlight your pictures and
other supplies. Several scrapbook supply companies have
begun to create patterned papers that seem more like a
work of art than paper to cut up and use on a project.
Basic Grey is most famous for this; their papers are
unique and add a lot to your page. Companies like Cosmo
Cricket, KI Memories, and Die Cuts With a View also make
patterned papers that go beyond the usual patterns and
themes. Like cardstock, patterned papers are sold both
by the sheet and in packs.
Specialty
Papers
There are also specialty papers that find their way into
scrapbook supply stores. These are papers like vellum,
mulberry paper, and metallic paper. Vellum is a
translucent paper which looks a lot like parchment. It
comes in many colors and patterns, and is an interesting
addition to a scrapbook page, as you can see through it.
Mulberry paper is a handmade paper that has a “fuzzy”
look to it. Many scrapbookers like to use mulberry paper
to create cut-out animals for their pages, as the paper
looks a lot like fur. And metallic paper is paper that
has a bit of sparkle to it. Bazzill just released a new
line of sparkly papers called Bazzill Bling that dress
up any page.
